RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program)

Sharing the Experience of a Lifetime

RSVP, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

RSVP helps people 55 years of age and older find meaningful ways to share their lifetime of skills and experiences for the benefit of others through volunteer service.

People who volunteer stay active, feel better and make new friends.

RSVP counts volunteer hours and every hour counts at hospitals, community gardens, cultural organizations and 100+ non-profit organizations through out Dutchess County.

Retired and Senior Volunteer ProgramEveryone has something to give

RSVP Members receive:

  • Supplemental fire, accident and liability insurance while on assignment
  • Transportation assistance
  • Annual recognition events and gifts
  • Newsletters

RSVP invites adults to put their experience to work solving problems close to home. Whether teaching children or adults to read, creating a recycling program, or providing much needed support to other causes, RSVP volunteers are making Dutchess County stronger.

Volunteers in Transition

Volunteers in TransitionA Dynamic Program...

Volunteers in Transition or VIT is a unique program that combines community volunteers with people who have physical and/or mental challenges. There are several components to the program:

Project Care: The VIT staff goes into
local nursing homes and long term
care facilities and assist residents in performing volunteer work such as bulk mailings and outreach projects for non-profit organizations.

Sincerely Yours: This is an intergenerational pen pal project in which seniors are matched with school children in a letter writing program to improve the literacy skills of the children and to build a relationship between the children and the seniors.

Between Friends: Connects people who are alone via telephone and mail.
Learning Through Others: an intergenerational classroom project in which seniors visit classrooms in two local school districts. The seniors and children work on outreach projects side by side, and read to each other.

VIT is the only program in Dutchess County that is dedicated to helping mentally and/or physically challenged elderly, as well as frail and/or isolated seniors and matching them with non-disabled volunteers to participate in meaningful volunteer activities.
