RSVP - Sharing the Experience of a Lifetime

pumpkin patch photoRSVP is the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

RSVP helps people 55 years of age and older find meaningful ways to share their lifetime of skills and experiences for the benefit of others through volunteer service.

People who volunteer stay active, feel better and make new friends.
RSVP counts volunteer hours and every hour counts at hospitals, community gardens, cultural organizations and over 100 non-profit human service organizations through-out Dutchess County.

Everyone has something to give.

RSVP Members Receive:

  • Supplemental fire, accident and liability insurance while on assignment
  • Transportation assistance
  • Annual recognition events and gifts
  • Newsletters

RSVP invites adults to put their experience to work solving problems close to home. Whether teaching children or adults to read, creating a recycling program, or providing much needed support to other causes, RSVP volunteers are making Dutchess County stronger. 1,000+ Volunteers Strong!

The Volunteers in Transition Program

Proving that nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something to make our world a better place is our dynamic Volunteers In Transition or VIT Project CARE/Between Friends.  VIT processes tens of thousands of pieces of bulk mailing each year, hundreds of arts and crafts projects, like baby blankets, holiday gifts, knitted scarves and gloves, and donate these items to local hospitals, shelters and nursing homes.  Learning Through Others is an intergenerational program.  The Sincerely Yours Pen Pals forge bonds and builds literacy between students and seniors.

"If you are planning to spend the rest of your life in another country, you would learn as much as possible about that country. You would read books. You would talk with people who had been there. Older age is rather like another country. You will enjoy it more if you have prepared yourself before you go.” ~ B.F. Skinner
